PBEC Environmental Award Past Awards
1st Environmental Award (Hong Kong - 1999) The first PBEC Environmental Award drew 20 finalists. The award was presented to Green Island Cement (Holdings) Ltd. of Hong Kong, a division of CKI Materials, the materials arm of publicly listed Cheung Kong Infrastructure Holdings Ltd. The company is primarily engaged in the production and distribution of construction materials in Hong Kong SAR and the Guangdong Province of the PRC. Green Island has been a leader in developing a comprehensive approach to environmental policy. As part of its long-term strategy, the company has integrated its production process with waste recycling in order to minimize its impact on the environment. Furthermore, Green Island has established programs to develop and utilize alternative fuel sources, reduce waste and emissions, and employ recycled and waste materials as substitutes for raw materials. The company has earned high praise for its sustained and far-reaching contributions to environmental preservation. For more information on Green Island, please visit: http://www.cki.com.hk/english/index.htm 2nd Environmental Award (Honolulu - 2000) For the second Environmental Award held in 2000, a panel of nine judges was carefully selected from a pool of internationally recognized leaders in environment protection and policy. Eight finalists submitted projects. The recipient was Sony Magnetic Products Co., Ltd, Thailand for their conservation techniques and Environmental Management System. As a result of the Environmental Management system, Sony Magnetic launched several innovative and far-reaching environmental projects which led to the reduction of energy consumption, waste and resource usage, the renovation of seacoast ecosystems, the reduction of tree cutting for paper production by means of a recycling program, and the establishment of a new chemical and waste storage area. |
