PBEC 2002 Mid-term Meeting
Los Cabos, Mexico
October 21-23, 2002

The 2002 PBEC Mid-term Meeting will take place in Los Cabos, Mexico, from Oct. 21-23, preceding the APEC CEO Summit. PBEC’s meeting will take place at the Hotel Melia Cabo Real.

Featured Speaker:

[ Sen. John Breaux ] U.S. Senator John Breaux to Address PBEC in Mexico
The senior senator from Louisiana has been at the forefront on the issue of Port Security.

Notes for Delegates:

  • The dress code for the PBEC Mid-term, and all meetings taking place in Los Cabos, is "smart casual" — short-sleeve shirts, jacket optional (no ties).
  • Most business in Los Cabos is conducted in U.S. dollars. Access to cash is limited, so be sure to arrive with a sufficient quantity on hand.

Due to unusually tight security requirements, hotel accommodations are controlled by APEC and will be at either the Hotel Melia Cabo Real or the Hilton Los Cabos. The two hotels are nearly contiguous, and less than a 5-minute walk apart. In either case, you will receive confirmation on which hotel you will be staying at.

This year's MTM will put a special focus on networking opportunities. We will be holding one or more of our dining or social events in conjunction with ABAC and possibly other business organizations that will be meeting in Los Cabos as well. Please take advantage of this opportunity to meet and network with these leading executives who would not normally be attending a PBEC MTM. And as always, the PBEC MTM will feature outstanding guest speakers sharing their insights with our delegates. We'll soon be providing speaker updates.

As you prepare to register for the Mid-term, please take note of the following:

  • All Mid-term Meeting delegates must fill out the meeting registration form.
  • PBEC delegates attending the Mid-term Meeting only should use the Mid-term Meeting hotel registration form.
  • PBEC delegates who are also attending the CEO Summit should use their official CEO Summit hotel registration form.
  • PBEC delegates with accompanying persons, or delegates wishing to participate in golf, fishing, or other activities, should additionally fill out the accompanying persons and optional activities form.

Due to severe space limitations in Los Cabos, APEC organizers have just informed us that PBEC delegates not attending the CEO Summit will need to check out on Wednesday, Oct. 23, to make room for incoming CEO Summit delegates. Please make your travel arrangements accordingly.

The PBEC MTM will conclude at noon on Oct. 23, and there are a number of flights out of Los Cabos late afternoon or early evening, so delegates wishing to depart on October 23 should be able to do so. For any delegates who might need or want to stay over on Oct 23, the PBEC International Secretariat is working with the APEC organizers to secure alternative hotel arrangements. Please contact Doris Lam (doris@pbec.org) for details.

While we recognize that switching hotels would be an inconvenience, please keep in mind that the strong consensus of the PBEC Board of Directors in Kuala Lumpur was to hold the MTM in Los Cabos and to minimize the time gap between the end of the MTM and the start of the CEO Summit. Fortunately, we have succeeded on both points. The unfortunate by-product is that because of incoming CEO Summit delegates, hotel space is extremely limited, and will need to be turned over rapidly. We apppreciate your understanding.
