Pacific Economic Policy Series: Assessing Seattle
December 16, 1999
PBEC US organized a breakfast event that focused on the Seattle WTO Ministerial and the outlook for trade negotiations in 2000. Speakers included House International Relations Committee staffer Frank Record, Minister of Economic Affairs Toshinori Shigeie from the Japanese Embassy, and Chris Jackson, Director General of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office.

PBEC Helps to Organize Session of Seattle Business Dialogue

In collaboration with the US Trade Alliance and with international business counterparts, PBEC US helped organize a session of the Seattle Business Dialogue focused on technology issues and WTO expansion. Speakers included New Zealand Ambassador to the US James Bolger, PBEC China Director General Wang Jinzhen, Grant Aldonis of the Senate Finance Committee, Sandy Kristoff of New York Life International, and PBEC Working Committee on Technology Chairman Rich Donaldson (Texas Instruments).

PBEC US Holds Asia Pacific Transportation Infrastructure Update
October 13, 1999
Florie Liser of the U.S. Department of Transportation provided an update on the status of the APEC Transportation Group, and Geoff Jackson of the US Trade and Development Agency provided an update of USTDA programs supporting transportation infrastructure development in the region. The meeting, held in the PBEC US offices, provided a forum for business representatives to discuss their interests in developing policy and programmatic efforts in PBEC to support expansion and improvements in regional transportation services and infrastructure.

PBEC US Organizes APEC Breakfast Briefing for US Delegates to the APEC CEO Summit in New Zealand

On behalf of the APEC Business Coalition, PBEC US coordinated a briefing for U.S. business delegates attending the APEC-related events in Auckland. Commerce Secretary Daley and Ambassador Richard Fisher, Deputy US Trade Representative, provided assessments on the Ministerial and Leaders' Meetings.

On the first morning of the Auckland Mid-term Meeting, Commerce Secretary William Daley joined the PBEC US delegates to the Mid-term Meeting to present an assessment on the upcoming APEC Ministerial and Leaders' Meetings.
