Tanonaka Named PBEC International President HONOLULU (8 November 2002) — Former international business journalist Dalton Tanonaka has been named president of the Pacific Basin Economic Council (PBEC).
"Dalton´s experience and skills are exactly what we need to move PBEC’s agenda forward," said PBEC Chairman S.R. Cho, the chairman of South Korea’s Hyosung Group. "His credibility and ideas will help us reemphasize our role as the business voice of the region." As president, Tanonaka will oversee all aspects of the organization’s operation. In addition to managing the day-to-day operations of the International Secretariat, he has bottom-line responsibility for planning and organizing PBEC’s International General Meeting (IGM) as well as other meetings throughout the year. He works closely with the International Chairman, Board of Directors, and PBEC’s twenty regional member committees to frame and promote PBEC policy positions, and organize and implement programs and services that benefit member companies. "I am looking forward to working with each of our 20 member economies in providing guidance to government and the private sector. And I want to be able to help expand business opportunities throughout the Pacific region," said Tanonaka. Tanonaka most recently was the anchor of CNN’s "BizAsia" and "TalkAsia" programs based in Hong Kong. He previously anchored business programs with CNBC and NHK (Tokyo) during his 12 years in the Asia-Pacific region. Besides his journalism background, Tanonaka served as Executive Director of Economic Development in Honolulu, and was a candidate for Lieutenant Governor of the state of Hawaii. He is the author of three books based on his Asia-Pacific experiences. Media Release (Nov. 8, 2002): For more information, contact: |
