Ambassador Jon M. Huntsman
Deputy United States Trade Representative

AMBASSADOR JON M. HUNTSMAN, JR. Deputy United States Trade Representative, will be addressing delegates at the annual PBEC Mid-term Meeting (MTM) in Shanghai. Ambassador Huntsman will speak at a luncheon on Wednesday, October 17 at the St. Regis Shanghai Hotel.

Ambassador Huntsman has an impressive background. Prior to his USTR appointment he was Vice Chairman of the Board of Huntsman Corporation, the largest, privately-held and family-owned chemical manufacturing company in America with annual sales of $8 billion and over 16,000 employees around the world. He also served on numerous corporate and non profit boards including the Board of Trustees of the University of Pennsylvania, the Institute for Advanced Study at Princeton, the Asia Society in New York and the National Bureau of Asian Research. He was also a founding Director of the Pacific Council on the International Policy in California, as well as a member of the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations. He was named by the World Economic Forum in Switzerland as a Global Leader for Tomorrow.

Ambassador Huntsman earlier served as United States Ambassador to the Republic of Singapore, and was one of the youngest U.S. ambassadors in recent history. He was Honorary Consul General of the Republic of Singapore. His prior government experience includes service as U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Commerce for East Asian and Pacific Affairs, and earlier as Deputy Assistant Secretary of Commerce in the International Trade Administration. He also served as a White House staff assistant during President Reagan's first term.

Ambassador Huntsman was born in Palo Alto, California and is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania. He is married with six children, and speaks Mandarin Chinese.
