Dear Friend:

It gives me pleasure to inform you that the Far Eastern International Investment Forum will take place in Khabarovsk, Russia from the 19th to the 20th of September 2001.

This Forum is jointly organized by the PBEC Russia Member Committee, Khabarovsk Territory Administration and Interregional Association "Far East and Trans-Baikal Regions" under the auspices of the President of the Russian Federation and the Government of the Russian Federation. The Forum was preceded by the International Investment Conferences, which were held annually since 1996.

Officials from federal ministries, heads of regional administrations and local authorities, representatives of large businesses and prominent academia circles of the Russian Federation and Asia Pacific countries are expected to participate in this event.

The Forum will focus its work on the projects of development of cooperation between the Russian Far East and Asia Pacific in the fields of transportation and energy supply.

Through plenary sessions and roundtable discussions, the Forum is going to address the following two themes:

  • Energy problems and investment projects of the Russian Far East and North-East Asia in the 21st century
  • International transport corridor. "Europe-Asia" Container Bridge - reality of the 21st century

The two key projects of the Forum are:

  • Renewal and reconstruction of the Transcontinental Container Bridge "Europe-Asia", including reconstruction of the Trans-Siberian and Baikal-Amur Railroads, modernization of the sea ports and motor roads;
  • Construction of the natural gas trunk pipeline "Sakhalin - Khabarovsk - Vladivostok" with the extension of the gas pipe to the East Asia countries.
  • Implementation of such large-scale projects is possible only through the use of political, intellectual and financial capabilities of many PBEC Member Committees.

The Forum's initiators suppose that Asia Pacific countries' cooperation in the above fields can give an impetus for the region's economic, social and political growth. Such cooperation would meet the national interests of all participating countries.

Considering the above-stated, I have the honor to invite you to the Far Eastern International Investment Forum to be held in Khabarovsk, Russia from 19 to 20 September 2001.

I would be sincerely grateful if you could find the possibility to encourage all members of your PBEC Member Committee to participate in this event.

Truly yours,

Victor I. Ishaev
RNCPEC Chairman
Governor of Khabarovsk Territory
