Eight up-and-coming Russian leaders recently visited with Mr. Stephen Olson, Acting President of PBEC, at the International Secretariat during a visit to Honolulu through the U.S. Library of Congress' Open World 2002 program.

The Russian Leadership Program invites approximately 3,000 emerging Russian political leaders to experience first-hand how American democracy works, how American citizens conduct their daily lives, and to help forge a better understanding between the two nations. However, their visit to PBEC had a more international focus.

During their visit to PBEC, the group and Mr. Olson discussed a number of issues' including what the Russian Federation must do to gain ascension to the WTO and what it could do to better attract foreign direct investment. Mr. Olson also briefed the visitors on PBEC policies and issues.

The participants of the Russian Leadership Program Honolulu tour, included:

  • Aleksey V. Finikov: Director, Agency for Development and Attraction of Investment
  • Aleksandra A. Komleva: Director (Comptroller), Taimyr State Government, Office of Centralized Accounting and Control
  • Veronika G. Karpenko: Director, Alkair Manufacturing, LLC.
  • Alena R. Skryabina: Vice President, Department of Investment Project Analysis and Expertise, Sakha Republic, Ministry of Entrepreneurship Affairs, Tourism Development and Employment
  • Yeena A. Selishceva: Financial Director, Women's Microfinancial Network
  • Aleksandr V. Kardash: Director of Economic Development, City and State of Velikiy-Novgorod
  • Pavel M. Savinykh: Chief Economist, Vyatka State Chamber of Commerce
  • Vadim A. Rokotov: Vice-Governor, Sakhalin Region/State Administration of Economic Development
