ADDITIONAL INFORMATION TO CURRICULUM VITAE
  • Grew up in Angeles City, Pampanga. Finished high school at Holy Angel Academy (now Holy Angel University)
  • Worked with City of Manila as traffic counter (e.g., counting vehicles or human traffic at busy intersections) during the day and studied accounting at night. By special permission of the Department of Education, Culture, and Sports, permitted to take full-load subjects allowing graduation after three and a half years.
  • Garnered second highest grade among 3,000-plus candidates during the government-supervised Certified Public Accountant examination in 1959.
  • Took MBA studies at Harvard Business School under scholarship by the school and its Philippine alumni.
  • Headed Asia's largest public accounting and management consulting firm, SGV & Co., as Chairman-Managing Partner for ten years (1982-1992). Became Member of the board of Partners (1986-1992) of Arthur Andersen World Organization when SGV became a member firm.
  • Member of the Cabinet economic team of President Ramos in 1992-1986 which instituted numerous reforms that turned around the Philippine economy. Accompanied the President in all foreign trip to promote the Philippines. Spearheaded trade and investment liberalization and facilitation initiatives under ASEAN, APEC, and WTO. Participated in setting monetary policies as member of the Monetary Board of the Central bank of the Philippines (renamed Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas) for five years (1992-1997)
  • Very active in professional, business/industry civic, and educational organizations involved in livelihood, skills training, entrepreneurship, micro-credit, countryside development, researches, and scholarships projects.
  • Married to Sally Navarro. Lucky to have three daughters and quadruplets grandchildren. Wife and Daughters are operating five home decor shops, a business venture started by Mrs. Navarro more than 20 years ago.
