Nelson Guim
President & CEO, Guimsa Group

NELSON R. GUIM is President and Chief Executive Officer of Guimsa, a retail chain specializing in household articles, handicraft materials, commercial displays, cellular phones and services. Other companies of the Guimsa Group are dedicated to business services (Multiservice), information technology (Compumedia), security services (Seviprosa), real estate (Incomosa), and amusement parks (Aventura Park).

Mr. Guim finished his high school at Institut Montana in Switzerland. He pursued law studies at the Catholic University of Guayaquil, where he became attorney- at-law and was elected President of the Association of Law Students. He has taken several specialization courses and seminars in law, business and economy.

He has held several positions in the private and public sector: Board Member of the Chamber of Commerce of Guayaquil, Board Member of the Spanish Chamber of Commerce of Ecuador (1985-86), President of the Committee of Legal Affairs in the XX & XXI Assemblies of the Federation of Chambers of Commerce of Ecuador (1989-90), Alternate Vice-Chairman of Guayaquil's Bar Association (1989-90), Founding Member of the Court of Arbitration of the Chamber of Commerce of Guayaquil (1992), Vice-minister of Foreign Trade and Integration (1994-95), Member of the Negotiating Team for the Accession of Ecuador to the World Trade Organization (1994-95), Alternate Representative for the Commission of Ministers of the Andean Group (1994-95), Acting Vice-Minister of Industries (1995), Acting Minister of Industries, Trade, Integration and Fishery (1995), President of the Aviation Club of Ecuador (1996), Founding Chairman of PBEC-Ecuador (1996).

Currently he is Chairman of PBEC - Ecuador www.pbec-ecuador.org , Vice-Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce of Guayaquil www.lacamara.org , Member of the National Aviation Board of Ecuador www.pbec-ecuador.org/CNAC.htm , President and CEO of Guimsa and related companies www.guimsa.com, Special Advisor for the recently created National Competitiveness Committee, Arbitrator of the Court of Arbitration of the Chamber of Commerce of Guayaquil, Legal Advisor for selected companies and institutions.

He lectures frequently at business and academic meetings, and has written articles, on several topics that include entrepreneurship, business environment and initiatives, integration processes (Andean Group, FTAA and APEC), Ecuador's accession to the WTO, legal, aviation.

He is a private pilot, certified diver and enjoys expeditions and several sports.
