Hwang Doo-yun
Minister for Trade, Republic of Korea
The Honorable Hwang Doo-yun ascended to the position of Minister for Trade, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MOFAT) for the Republic of Korea in February 2001. He was born March 5, 1941, and Graduated from the Department of Law at Jeonbuk National University in 1964. In 1970, he received a Master's degree in management from the Management Education Institue of Arthur D. Little in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and he received a Master's degree in civic planning from Seoul National University's Graduate School of Environment Engineering in 1974. Throughout his career, which has spanned over 30 years, Minister Hwang has held several senior positions in the Korean government as well as a number of prominent positions in the private sector. He had worked in the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MOTI) from 1979 to 1991, as Director of the Trade and Industrial policy divisions, and as Director General of the trade cooperation, trade administration, and small business promotion bureaus. And from 1994 through 1997, he served as Senior Executive Vice President and then Vice Chairman, President, and COO of the Korea International Trade Association (KITA). Prior to attaining his current post, he was President of the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA). In 1983, Minister Hwang received the Order of Service Merit award. He is married with three daughters.
