Poultry Industry Forum: In Search of Best Practices
June 7-8, 2001

Food supply is a critical issue for the Asia-Pacific region. Businesses, consumers, and governments all stand to gain from working together towards improvements in the regional food system that result in a safer, more secure food supply.

The International Working Committee on Food Products, in association with PBEC Colombia and the Bogotá Chamber of Commerce, held the first PBEC international forum on best practices case studies of the poultry industry. The conference objective was to formulate implementation strategies and working models for best business practices recommended in PBEC's Value Chain for Poultry study (now available in both English and Spanish). Key conference topics included trade and investment liberalization; food system technology; technology transfer; food safety and sanitary-phytosanitary (SPS) issues; food security; and infrastructure development.

Over sixty delegates attended the meeting from Venezuela, Peru, Mexico, Chile, Colombia, and the US. The Colombian Minister of Agriculture, Rodrigo Villalba,and Vice-Minister of Foreign Trade, Santiago Rojas, opened and closed the event. Other speakers included:
