Regional Vitality in the 21st Century
April 6-10, 2001 Tokyo, Japan
Mr. Kosaku Inaba
Dear PBEC colleagues, ladies and gentlemen. I would like to thank my colleagues on the Board of Directors of PBEC for re-electing me as chairman of PBEC.I am deeply honored by the confidence you have placed in me, and I pledge to you my full commitment to do my utmost to justify your support. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Conference Chairman, Mr. Minoru Murofushi, his Organizing Committee members, and all staff members of PBEC for their dedicated efforts in organizing this IGM. Those of us who are fortunate enough to attend IGMs as delegates never really glimpse the long and hard hours of work and preparation that goes into making an event like this a success. It is always a special honor and privilege for the PBEC Chairman to preside over an IGM held in his home economy. During the course of this IGM, I trust that you all have had an opportunity to experience not only the vitality of modern Tokyo, but also a bit of the culture and heritage of traditional Japan as well. It has been wonderful for us at PBEC Japan to welcome so many old friends into our home, while at the same time making so many new acquaintances. I hope these new acquaintances broaden and deepen over the years to come, at many future PBEC meetings. Remember, one of the founding principles of PBEC was the need to build personal relationships across the huge expanses of the Asia Pacific. The value of building strong personal relationships and mutual understanding is just as important today as it was 34 years ago when PBEC began. We have convened our IGM in Tokyo at a critical juncture for the world economy. The challenges facing all of us today as business leaders and community leaders are among the greatest of any time during our long history. We were fortunate to be joined by many notable speakers who shared their insights and expertise on meeting these challenges, and laying the groundwork for regional vitality in the 21st century, the theme of our conference. I trust you were all intellectual stimulated by the dialogue and discussions you engaged in during the IGM, and I hope that you return to your business concerns invigorated with the new ideas and strategies you have been exposed to. In closing, I would like to thank you all once again for joining us here in Tokyo for the 34th annual International General Meeting. I look forward to working with all of you to build a stronger PBEC. Thank you. |
