Ronnie Chan Ronnie Chan Chairman, Hang Lung Development Co. Ltd. Ronnie C. Chan is the Chairman of the Hang Lung Group of Hong Kong. Incorporated in 1960 and became publicly listed in 1972, the Group comprises three publicly traded companies - Hang Lung Development Company, Limited, the holding company, Amoy Properties Limited, the property investment and development arm, and Grand Hotel Holdings Limited, the hotel development and management firm. Both Hang Lung and Amoy are constituent stocks of the Hang Seng Stock Index. On the private business side, Mr. Chan co-founded and is a director of various companies within the Morningside/Springfield Group. The Group and its associates have offices in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Taipei, Singapore, Geneva, Milan and the U.S. Morningside manages privately-owned portfolios with underlying investments in private companies in 18 countries in Asia, Europe and the U.S. Portfolio companies are involved in high technology in the Greater China region; manufacturing and advertising in mainland China; developmental capital investments in Southeast Asia; distribution and manufacturing in Europe; as well as high tech investments and service industry businesses in North America. Springfield is engaged in financial services. Mr. Chan is Chairman of the Hong Kong-United States Business Council; a Vice President of the Hong Kong Real Estate Developers Association; a Trustee of the Better Hong Kong Foundation; and chairman of the Executive Committee of the One Country Two Systems Research Institute. He serves on the Board of Directors of Standard Chartered PLC, Enron Corp., and Motorola Inc. and is a member of the Global Corporate Governance Advisory Board organized by Egon Zehnder International. Mr. Chan is a Vice Chairman of the Board of the Asia Society and Chairman of its Hong Kong Center. He is a member of the Foundation Board of the World Economic Forum and co-chaired its 1998 Davos Annual Meeting. He is a Governor of the East-West Center; a Director of the Pacific Council on International Policy; a Trustee of the Eisenhower Exchange Fellowships and of the African-Asian Society, and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. He is a Council member of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, a Trustee of the University of Southern California, a Governing Board member of the Indian School of Business. Mr. Chan is also a member of the International Advisory Council of the Institute for International Studies at Stanford University; of The President's Council on International Activities at Yale University; of the Advisory Board of the Center for Strategic and International Studies (both the one in Washington D.C. and the unrelated namesake in Jakarta); and of the International Advisory Board of the Institute of Asia-Pacific Studies at Waseda University. Mr. Chan chairs the China Heritage Fund which restores cultural relics in China. He is a Vice President and serves on the Board of Directors of the China Development Research Foundation of the State Council of the People's Republic of China. Mr. Chan is a frequent speaker at international conferences and has published articles in the likes of Newsweek, Fortune, Financial Times, Far Eastern Economic Review, South China Morning Post, Japan Times and Harvard Asia Quarterly. Mr. Chan holds an MBA from the University of Southern California. He is 51 years of age and resides in Hong Kong with his wife. They have two sons. For more information: |
