Electronic commerce, the fastest growing business sector in the world, is widely recognized as a key factor of national and regional economic growth in Asia Pacific. At the same time, its rapid spread has raised many difficult business, legal and policy issues. This East-West Center conference brings together prominent representatives from e-commerce, telecommunications and IT industries in Asia, the Pacific and the United States for three days of intensive discussions on the impacts and implications of the New Economy.

Background:

The first Asia Pacific Conference on E-Commerce, co-sponsored by the Center's East-West Seminars program and Pennsylvania State University's Institute for Information Policy, was held in Honolulu at the East-West Center, October 30-November 1, 2000.
