"APEC and the Current Economic Crisis: The Question of Relevance & Contribution"
This session will deliberate over the impact of the current economic crisis in APEC member economies and how they should respond to the problems affecting the region. It will highlight critical issues related to the liberalisation of the global financial systems, the social, economic and political factors which have led to the economic crisis, and the extent of the role and contribution of ARFC n addressing these problems,

Luncheon Debate: The Asian Recovery - How? How Soon? And How Painful?
This debate will focus on the road to recovery for economies affected by the economic crisis. It will focus on measures needed for affected member economies and look at structural reforms needed to pave the way for their recovery. It will also examine the pros and cons of reforms and the manner in which adjustments will affect the economies concerned.
2:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.   Plenary Session Two
"E-Commerce: The Promise and the Pitfalls"
This session will discuss the role of e-commerce as international trade moves into a new millennium, with new possibilities and challenges. It will examine the implications of e-commerce, its many benefits including increasing efficiency of business transactions as well as its pitfalls, particularly on issues such as whether the "losers" in the e-commerce race will have to accept the new standards and medium of trade.

3:45 p.m. - 5:15 p.m.   Ministerial Panel
"Ecotech and Early Voluntary Sectoral Liberalisation: Opportunities & Challenges"
To highlight the impact of EVSL, the panel will address the critical strategic issues including capacity building through Ecotech projects to help for example the ability of developing APEC economies to achieve a more level playing field as liberalisation continues.

"Foreign Direct Investments - Where the New Opportunities Lie"
New areas and trends of FDI in the region will be closely examined. The session will look at investors' confidence in the region and the question of how opportunities arise from the present risk portfolio in the region, especially in new areas where foreign investors can benefit from direct investments.

"Investment Opportunities in Capital Markets"
Given the present 'cheap' valuation of Asian capital markets, this session will evaluate the opportunities for foreign investors in these markets The situation reflected for example in the high P/Es in US capital markets compared with those in Asia will provide opportunities for attractive returns as Asian markets recover.

"Smart Partnerships in Key Economic Sectors"
The Parallel Sessions will discuss the listed areas affecting cooperation between developed and developing economies in APEC private/business and public sectors. For example, in Parallel Session 7, discussion will touch upon whether the present international monetary system has outlived its usefulness. The current economic crisis has shown that governments will need to continuously re-examine their policies until a more predictable and reliable international monetary system is established.

In looking at the overall APEC agenda, member economies will examine issues such as the need to ensure mutual prosperity on a range of issues including education, poverty and women's issues, This session will outline not only the importance of economic growth derived from greater liberalisation.
4:45 p.m. - 5:45 p.m.   Concluding Session
CEO Roundtable: Business For What? Before Profit, Beyond Profit
It is assumed that the development of a corporate sector will contribute to the improvement of the overall standard of living in a nation. The social and political turbulence in the current economic downturn of the East Asian region has demonstrated the tenuous and sensitive link between the state of the corporate sector and the well-being of its larger citizenry.
