PBEC CEO Michael Walsh attended and spoke at the recent WETS summit in Penang, Malaysia which PBEC was an official co-organiser. Over 250 delegates came to the Shangri-La Resort Hotel to witness a whole days content and networking on the digital economy. Senior Govt officials from Malaysia including the Governor of Penang and the High Commissioner of India B.N. Reddy & First Secretary C. Sushma High Commission of India, Kuala Lumpur were in attendance and spoke on the importance of deepening relations and connectivity between Penang State and Indian States for future trade collaboration.
CEO Michael Walsh spoke on the Movers and Shakers panel immediately after lunch and highlighted the importance of sustainable development and good governance. Penang enjoys a strong position in advanced manufacturing of IT equipment and chip making which is expected to grow over the coming years. Georgetown’s population continues to grow and Malaysia’s GDP has been performing better than many of its ASEAN peers since Covid restrictions were removed. The Government of Malaysia administration is certainly pro-business and pro-DFI efforts.
