Tan Sri Dato’ David Chiu is an outstanding entrepreneurs, holds a double degree of Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Economics at the University of Sophia, Japan. He is a prominent businessman with over 30 years’ experience in the property development and extensive experience in the hotel development.
He is the Chairman of Far East Consortium International Ltd. (Stock code: 35.HK), Dorsett Hospitality International Ltd, the founder and the Chairman of Malaysia Land Properties Sdn and the Chairman of AGORA Hospitality Group Co., Ltd (Stock code: 9704. JP)
Far East Consortium International Limited was listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in 1972. Since then, the Group has built a strong foundation in the region enhanced by the local knowledge of its on-ground teams. FEC is mainly engaged in property development and investment, hotel operation and management, car park operation as well as property management services. The Group adopts geographical diversification and “Chinese wallet” strategy, with business covering Hong Kong, Mainland China, Australia, Malaysia, Singapore, the United Kingdom and New Zealand. FECIL won 2015 Asiamoney Best Managed Company Award and “Top 4 Best Companies in Asia for Corporate Governance” by Asiamoney.
FECIL has a significant pipeline of residential projects, which are located in Hong Kong, Mainland China, Australia, Malaysia and the United Kingdom. With the total sellable floor areas amounting to approximately 11 million sq. ft., the projects are under different stages of development. The estimated total development value is HK$38 billion, expected to have large contribution from completion properties in the future. FECIL is also one of the largest property developers in Melbourne, with more than 20 years’ experience in the region.
At the end of 2014, FECIL signed a consortium bid agreement with Chow Tai Fook Enterprises Limited and Star Entertainment Group to bid for the development of an entertainment precinct and integrated resort in Brisbane with approximately 9.4 hectares of site area. In July 2015, Destination Brisbane Consortium was selected by the Queensland State as the preferred proponent to undertake the Project. The Project entails the development of an entertainment precinct and integrated resort as well as residential development at Queen’s Wharf Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.
The company currently operates 20 hotels, located in Hong Kong, Mainland China, the United Kingdom, Singapore and Malaysia, a total of 6,043 rooms. There are a total of 3,000 rooms for 12 new hotels under development and will increase to 9,000 rooms in 2022.
Malaysia Land Properties Sdn Bhd (Mayland)is recognized as one of the leading developers in the Malaysia. It is the largest condominium developer in Malaysia, has an annual capacity to deliver up to approximately 10,000 apartments. Mayland owns a number of shopping mall projects and controls Land and General, a developer listed in Malaysia. Mayland’s landbank projects includes 3,000 unit integrated development Plaza Damas in Hartamas, 1,100 unit Regalia at Jalan Sultan Ismail, 4,000 unit Sri Putramas, Jalan Kuching, 2,000 unit at Palazio and 3,000 at Park Regency in Johor Bahro. Mayland had built and constructed over 40 projects over 100M sq.ft. of housing development, shopping centers and commercial complex.
AGORA Hospitality Group Co. Ltd. (AGORA) is listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange engaged in real estate business in Japan, with a series of residential projects in Tokyo and owns and operate resort to traditional ryokan in Fukuoka and Osaka. AGORA founded by a team of experts in hotel operation and property development.
In regard to his devotion to community services in China and Hong Kong, he was appointed as the member of the 12th Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and the chairman of Mid-Autumn Festival Celebration-People and Forces’ Committee in 2008. Currently,he is a trustee member of The Better Hong Kong Foundation, an honorary chairman of Mid-Autumn Festival Celebration-People and Forces’Committee, a director and a member of Concerted Efforts Resource Centre, a counselor of China-United States Exchange Foundation, an honorary chairman of Guangdong Chamber of Foreign Investors, a member of Hong Kong GeneralChamber of Commerce, a member of the Constitutional Reform Synergy, a member of The Real Estate Developers Association of Hong Kong, a member of Friends of Hong Kong Association Ltd, a member of Pacific Basin Economic Council and a director of three Ju Ching Chu Schools in Hong Kong.
In Malaysia, TanSri Dato’ David CHIU was awarded an honorary award which carried the title “Dato” and a more senior honorary title of “Tan Sri” by His Majesty,King of Malaysia in 1997 and 2005 respectively. He was also awarded the WCEF Lifetime Achievement Awards by Asian Strategy& Leadership Institute in 2013.
