Y.Y. Wong is the founder of the Wywy Group, an agglomeration of companies engaged in global trading, marketing, direct sales, lifestyle retail, high-tech family entertainment centers, network distribution, financial services, logistics and engineering. BusinessWeek noted that "in a region where state corporations or private land empires dominate the economy ... the Wywy Group boasts one of the largest non-real estate conglomerates" and hailed the founder as "Singapore's mogul," and "Asia-Singapore's maverick marketer."
Wong is frequently invited to speak at business symposiums. Internationally he has addressed the World Economic Forum, Nikkei Future of Asia Symposium, St Gallen University International Management Symposium, UBS Annual Executive Meeting and the Annual World Bank/IMF Meeting. Wong lectures at the National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University, Marketing Institute of Singapore, INSEAD Global Leadership Programs, NUS Stanford Executive Seminars and the Singapore National Employer's Federation.
Wong is a founding member of the Japan Singapore Action Agenda Committee and the US Singapore Consultative Committee. He has chaired seminars for futurologist Alvin Toffler, lateral thinking guru Edward de Bono, Kepner Tregoe chairman Quinn Spitzer, Adversity Quotient author Paul Stoltz, Omron chairman, vice-chairman Keidanren, Noburo Tateisi and Asahi Breweries chairman, vice-chairman Keidanren Hirataro Higuchi.
In the US, Wong is a Board Member of the SEI 'think-tank' at the Wharton School, and an International Council Board Member of the Asia Society of New York. He is an AMP alumnus of the Harvard Business School. In the United Kingdom Wong is an honorary professor of entrepreneurship at the University of Stirling. At home he is a Board Advisor to the Faculty of Business at the National University and the Singapore Institute of International Affairs. He is a Trustee of the Singapore National Employers Federation. Wong was conferred an Honorary Doctorate by the University of Stirling and an Honorary Fellowship by the Marketing Institute of Singapore.
Wong has served on various boards including chairman of Yeo Hiap Seng, Board Member of Orchard Parade Holdings, vice-chairman National Full Gospel Rally and Honorary Treasurer of the CSL Children's Home.
Wong is married with two sons and a daughter. His eldest son is a graduate student at Cambridge University. Second son is a senior at Yale University and daughter is a graduating student at Raffles Junior College. The family is a member of the Methodist Church.
