Roberto R. Romulo is currently the Chairman of Equitable Cardnetwork, Incorporated, issuer and acquirer of VISA and Mastercard credit cards in the Philippines. ECN also has a joint venture with American Express.
He is also the Chairman of Interpharma Investments, Ltd., the holding Company of the Zuellig Pharma related companies, which market and distribute products of research-based multinational companies. Zuellig Pharma operates in the Asia-Pacific Region with the exception of Indonesia and Australia.
He is also the Chairman of the Carlos P. Romulo Foundation for Peace and Development, a nonprofit and nonpartisan organization which is dedicated to improve the well-being of the Filipino through exceptional research and training activities on international and regional issues. The Foundation intends to serve as a bridge between public policy, scholarship and the private sector. It is committed to promoting peace and development in the Asia-Pacific Region.
In June 1996, the APEC Business Advisory Council, consisting of 3 members per APEC economy appointed by the 18 Leaders, held their first organizational meeting in Manila. Romulo was the founding Chairman and co-Chairman of ABAC in 1996 and 1997. He continues as Chairman of the Philippine representation to ABAC per his reappointment by President Joseph E. Estrada in July 1998. He is also co-Chairman of the technology task force in ABAC.
From July 1995 to November 1998, he was Chairman of Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. He was also vice-chairman of San Miguel International and San Miguel Holdings Ltd. from 1995 to 1998. He was also a member of the board of directors of San Miguel Corporation.
