Mong Gyu Chung has presided as Chairman of Hyundai Development Company since March 1999.
Chung served as Chairman and CEO of Hyundai Motor Company from January 1996 to February 1999. He also served as Chairman of the Korean Automobile Manufacturer's Association (KAMA) from February 1997 to February 1999, and as Chairman of the Korea/UK Business Leaders Forum from July 1998 to March 1999.
In January 1993, Chung served as Vice President and Head of the Corporate Planning Division of Hyundai Motor Company headquarters in Seoul.
Born in Seoul, Korea on January 14th, 1962, Chung received a bachelor of arts degree in business administration from Korea University in 1985 and obtained a second bachelor of arts degree and master's degree in politics, philosophy and economics from Oxford University in 1988. He is married with three sons.
Chung began his career in Hyundai Motor Company as a manager in the Accounting Department of the main headquarters in 1988. While at this post, he held several different positions including manager of Corporate Planning and Production Control Departments.
In February 1990, Chung was appointed Director in charge of Purchasing Administration. He became Managing Director in January 1991 and Executive Managing Director in March of 1992.
