Milton Seok Dong Kim was born on February 11, 1961.

In 1972, Kim went to the U.S. for his education. He attended St. Paul's School in Concord, N.H. from 1975 to 1979. He received his BA from Brown University in 1983 with degrees in international relations and French. In 1986, he received his M.SC. in Foreign Service from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. After two years of training at Citibank, N.A. in New York, Kim went to INSEAD in Fontainebleau, France where he received his MBA in 1989. Kim joined Ssangyong Investment and Securities in 1990 as an Assistant Manager and has worked in various areas of the firm including domestic brokerage, underwriting, corporate planning, mergers and acquisitions, and international transactions. In 1992, he was promoted to the Board of Directors and became the youngest CEO in the Korean securities industry in December 1995.

In June 1996, Asia Week magazine named Kim as one of the twenty new leaders who will lead Asia in the twenty first century. In December 1996, Euromoney named him as one of the 50 financial leaders of the future. Kim was also chosen by the World Economic Forum of Davos, Switzerland in 1997 as a Global Leader for Tomorrow. In January 1999, Asia Society designated him as an International Counselor.

Kim and his wife Joon Hee Han have a son and two daughters.
