Ken Matchett was born and raised in Winnipeg, Canada. A Chartered Accountant by profession, he entered into Canada's grain industry in 1970 in a financial capacity with United Grain Growers Limited. He moved into senior operational positions, including grain marketing, before being appointed Chief Executive Officer of XCAN Grain in 1988.
XCAN Grain is the marketing arm of the two large grain co-operatives in Western Canada - Agricore and Saskatchewan Wheat Pool - and is one of Canada's largest exporters of grains, oilseeds and special crops.
XCAN has offices in Winnipeg (Head Office) and Vancouver in Canada, the United Kingdom, Japan, Hong Kong and Australia, and is represented in many other countries through agency agreements. Ken is a Director of all of XCAN's subsidiaries.
Appointed by the Minister of International Trade, Ken is a member of the Advisory Board of Team Canada Inc., an advisory group to the Government of Canada on trade policy and development. He is also Co-Chair of the Canadian Agri-Food Marketing Council - an advisory body appointed by the Ministers of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada and International Trade.
Ken has recently served on the Prime Minister's Advisory Council on Asia Pacific, as Chairman of the Alliance of Manufacturers and Exporters Canada, Chairman of the Canadian Exporters Association and Chairman of the Pacific Basin Economic Council - Canadian Committee, the latter of which he still serves on the Board as a Director. He has been a member of PBEC since 1989.
He is also a Past President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Manitoba (elected a "Fellow" in 1979), Past President of the Winnipeg Football Club, Past Governor of the Canadian Football League and Past Chairman of the Shippers & Exporters Association of the Winnipeg Commodity Exchange.
Ken has served as a Director of the Winnipeg Commodity Exchange, Winnipeg Commodity Clearing Ltd., the Canada Grains Council and Canola Council of Canada.
Ken is married to Susanne, has three daughters and enjoys golf and skiing when time permits.
