Professor Kenneth S. Courtis was named Vice President - Asia for Goldman Sachs in February 2000.
Previously, Professor Courtis was First Vice-President of Deutsche Bank Asia Pacific. As Strategist and Chief Economist, Professor Courtis conducts economic and policy research, investment and strategic analysis for the Group throughout the Asia-Pacific, in Europe and North America.
Professor Courtis has won numerous prizes and distinction for his research and is a valued advisor on international economic, financial and investment matters. He has lectured and written widely on the related fields of international finance, macro-economic policy, global capital markets and strategy. He is a prominently quoted commentator on global economic, financial and political developments.
Professor Courtis has published on major international economic, public policy, investment, and strategy issues, and is highly sought after speaker. His recent book of Japan's financial crisis and policy prescription has gone to a second printing and has had a wide influence both in Japan and internationally. His articles and comments have appeared in Euromoney, the Harvard Business Review, The New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, the Financial Times, Borsen Zeitung, Le Monde, Nihon Keizai, Asahi, the Washington Post, The Los Angeles Times, The Globe and Mail, Foreign Affairs. Professor Courtis also lectures at Keio and Tokyo universities, Japan's two most prestigious institutions of higher learning, and is Visiting Professor of the Stockholm School of Economics. After graduating with honours from Glendon College in Toronto, Professor Courtis took a M.A. In International economics at Sussex University. England, a M.B.A. in finance and strategy al INSEAD (European Institute of Business Administration), and a Doctorate, with honours and the highest distinction, at the Institute of Economic and Political Studies in Paris.
He serves on the International Research Council of the Center for International and Strategic Studies (CSIS) In Washington, and is a member of the Advisory Board of the International M.B.A. programme of York University, in Toronto, and of the Economic Strategy Institute (ESI) in Washington. He is an Honorary Councillor of the Atlantic Council, and a participating member of the North American Institute.
