Dr. Wood is Vice-Chair, Department of Internal Medicine at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.

His major responsibilities in the Department of Medicine include overall management of the Internal Medicine practice, quality management and continuous improvement activities. He is also responsible for new practice development, including the development of new relationships with business coalitions, government purchasers and other health care providers. In this work, he has been involved in the development of new health care delivery systems in the John Deere-Mayo project, the Institute for Clinical Systems Integration in Minneapolis-St. Paul and the Blue Cross Blue Shield-Minnesota Select Cardiac Care Network. He holds national economics and coding and nomenclature responsibilities for the American College of Cardiology.

Dr. Wood is a charter member of the Performance Measurement Advisory Council of the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Health Care Organizations. He is also a charter member of the Performance Measurement Coordinating Council, a national organization with membership from JCAHO, the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) and the American Medical Association (AMAP). He is a reviewer for several major refereed journals and has contributed invited editorials on performance measurement and the medical economic issues. Dr. Wood has also chaired the Minnesota Medicare Carrier Advisory Committee since 1994 and he has delivered lectures at national meetings on the subjects of the future of cardiology and the impact of the aging population on health care delivery systems. He is a contributing author to a recently published book on health care in the twenty-first century.

Dr. Wood is a practicing cardiologist at the Mayo Clinic and he provides outreach cardiovascular care for a small community in west central Minnesota on a regular basis.
