The Pacific Basin Economic Council will hold its 31st International General Meeting (IGM) in Santiago, Chile, from May 22-27, 1998. Each year this premier business conference brings together more than 600 business leaders, government ministers, and heads of state from more than twenty-five economies around the Pacific.
Along with PBEC members, delegates representing the economies of Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay and Venezuela have also been invited to participate as observers at the 31st IGM in order to provide more information on opportunities in Latin America, and to establish personal contacts and relationships.
This year's IGM is entitled 'Pacific Prosperity: Sustaining Momentum Into the 21st Century' and promises to be the most important international business event that will take place in the Americas during 1998. This year's IGM will be especially significant considering that it will be the first gathering of business leaders and senior government officials to be held in the Pacific Basin region since the unfolding of the Asia currency and stock market difficulties. The updated agenda will address all the major issues and challenges raised by these developments. Furthermore, the [GM will provide PBEC, as the voice of business in the Pacific, with an outstanding opportunity to step to the forefront in developing solutions and implementing strategies to ensure the region's prosperity well into the 21st century.
