NOTED ECONOMIST TO SHARE
VIEWS ON ASIAN FINANCIAL CRISIS
WITH ASIA-PACIFIC BUSINESS LEADERS


May 14,1998-- Noted economist Dr. Kenneth S. Courtis will be addressing leading corporate executives, heads of government, and governmental ministers from throughout the Asia-Pacific, at the 31st annual International General Meeting (IGM) of the Pacific Basin Economic Council (PBEC), which will be taking place May 25th-27th in Santiago, Chile.

 Dr. Courtis is first Vice-President of Deustche Bank Group Asia, the investment banking arm of Deutsche Bank Group, Europe's largest financial institution. He is a highly sought after speaker, writer and guest commentator on major network news programs, and he has had wide influence internationally through his publications on major economic, public policy, investment, and strategy issues. His articles have appeared in distinguished international publications such as the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, Euromoney, the Harvard Business Review, and Le Monde, to mention a few. Mr. Courtis also lectures at Japan's two most prestigious institutions of higher learning, keio and Tokyo Universities, and is visiting professor at the Stockholm School of Economics.

 PBEC is an association of senior business leaders representing more than 1,200 major corporations in 20 economies around the Pacific. PBEC's International General Meeting is an opportunity for the region's foremost corporate executives to gather with other international leaders, to discuss, in a frank and intimate setting, the key issues in the regional economy, and to publicly issue policy recommendations and statements.

 This year's event features an especially impressive list of participants. The opening address will be given by Chilean President Eduardo Frei. The World Bank and the United Nations will also be participating. PBEC will also use the occasion of the IGM to present its first Business Excellence Award, to Akio Morita, founder of Sony.
