Granted the status of "Biosphere Reserve" by UNESCO in 1978, the Paine Towers (Torres del Paine) National Park is located 400 kms. (250 miles) from Punta Arenas.
The Towers are surrounded by rivers, lakes, lagoons, waterfalls, glaciers and incredible massifs - the "Horns"- which reach 3.050 meters at their highest point.
Forests of the scarce "Lenga" and "Nires" trees fill this National Park, while lamas, foxes, hares, woodpeckers, hawks, condors and other species of animal life do not shy away from visitors.
