· PBEC is an international business association of senior leaders and subject matter experts representing approximately 200+ major corporations and entrepreneurs from multiple economies across Asia and the Pacific, which account for more than US $4 trillion in global sales and employ more than 10 million people.

The Council was established in 1967 to provide a forum for business leaders interested in influencing and providing inputs to Government policies in the APAC region. The Council played a significant role in advising governments as well as serving as a liaison between business representatives and government officials. Today it continues to act as a bridge between all stakeholders, convening roundtable dialogues on a regular basis, sharing market intelligence and publishing white papers related to issues of the day and trade related as well as its annual marquee report.
The Council is made up of representatives from many of the 21 economies of APEC. With a presence in Australia, Canada, China, Columbia, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and the USA. Its international Secretariat is based in Hong Kong since 2003.
The Council aims at highlighting solutions, opportunities and risks from its community of subject matter experts from multiple sectors that rely on trade and investment flows through digital means and open cross-border markets in the Pacific. PBEC advocates and promotes co-operation between stakeholders, regional forums and member site visits where business leaders have a chance to engage with governments and other international agencies on key issues affecting the development of its industry and others in the Pacific region.
The Council previously hosted annually its renowned International General Meeting (IGM), a 2-3 day business conference bringing together business leaders, government ministers and heads of state to discuss emerging business opportunities and trade issues following the country chair of APEC as its location. With the emergence and importance placed on climate emissions the board took the decision to stop hosting this annual event back in the mid 2000’s and teamed up with partner organisations such
as KSI Asia Pacific, Horasis Asia Meeting, Milken Institute Singapore, Forbes CEO Asia conference and now Bloomberg New Economy Forums in Asia amongst others, where PBEC members typically attended anyway and yet can enjoy complimentary and discounted delegate passes and invitations from its broad array of partner organisations, where members can request and apply to participate as a speaker if they so wish with partner organisations.
Committees elaborate the Council’s policy on a number of issues such as administrative barriers, foreign direct investment, services and technology, global supply chains in APAC, cross-border trade finance, digital trade and platform solutions, energy transition, mitigating risk, climate disclosures, education sector in Asia and the importance of preserving and developing art/cultural exchanges in Asia Pacific.
Several business symposia focused on improving the business climate have taken place under the sponsorship of the Council which has also been carrying on since 1993 a programme of business delegations and site visits of its members. The Council is an ‘institutional member’ of the Pacific Economic Co-operation Council (PECC), participating in all its activities but without voting power. The Council’s policy positions are frequently used as a reference by the Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation (APEC). The Council also engage with APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) members from across APAC with close relations with several who actively participate in PBEC dialogues and provide regional updates.
